They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that’s true all around the world. Cultures across the globe have used the ingredients available to them to come up with some truly delicious morning meals. Let’s take a look at how various parts of the world enjoy breakfast.

Vegemite – Australia

Vegemite is a black brewer’s yeast extract. No one is ambivalent about Vegemite—you either love it or you hate it. Whatever your opinion, there’s no denying that Vegemite on toast is a staple of Australian breakfast. Some people jazz it up with a bit of cheese, a schmear of butter or a side of sausage.

Bread, Coffee, Fruit – Brazil

If you live in Brazil, you know that you’re surrounded by beautiful landscapes that yield delicious local produce. Naturally, breakfast consists of some locally-sourced coffee to perk you up, homemade bread to fill your tummy and fresh fruit, usually papaya, to satisfy your sweet tooth. Enjoy this breakfast on your front porch or deck as you watch the sunrise.

Rice and Banchan – South Korea

If you’ve ever been to a Korean restaurant, your waiter probably brought you a little bowl of preserved vegetables. These are called banchan, and Koreans pair them with rice for their morning chow. Korea’s climate varies widely from season to season, so spring and summer vegetables must be pickled to last through the winter. But the delicious savory taste of these pickled veggies make them a superb breakfast all year round.

Ful Medames – Egypt

Ful Medames is the national dish of Egypt. This breakfast spread is a scrumptious source of protein that consists of fava bean stew seasoned with pepper, sea salt, olive oil, garlic, lemon, and cumin. If you want an extra hint of protein to keep you full until lunch, throw in a hard-boiled egg.

Puuro – Finland

If you go to Finland looking for oatmeal in the morning, you’ll probably end up with a bowl of Puuro. This oat-based porridge looks and tastes like oatmeal and is delightfully garnished with fresh fruit and milk.
