Roller coasters are one of the safest ways to get an adrenaline rush. While accidents do happen, they’re rare and most coasters undergo regular safety inspections. Plus, unlike other adrenaline sports, roller coasters don’t require you to control anything. Strapped into your seat, you’re free to just enjoy the ride.
So if you’re looking to travel the world, conquering one roller coaster at a time, here are 5 crazy rides you can’t miss.
Takabisha, Fuji-Q Highland, Japan
This roller coaster has been hailed as an engineering marvel. There are 7 inversions and a 121-degree vertical drop. It is not only the ultimate adrenaline ride, but it’s also a gravity-defying experience. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, Japan has outlawed screaming on roller coasters. Instead, you’ll have to holler inside your mind.
Kingda Ka, Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey
Kingda Ka uses aircraft carrier technology to shoot you up 456 feet, before dropping you 418 feet. As you fall, a camel hump hill gives you the sensation of being weightless. This design originated in Sandusky, Ohio at Cedar Point, aka The Roller Coaster Capital of the World. But Cedar Point’s prototype is nowhere near as tall as Kingda Ka, which remains the world’s tallest coaster.
Goliath, Six Flags Great America, Illinois
Goliath is the only wooden coaster on this list. But don’t count it out. This ride also has 2 inversions, which is unheard of. If you’re looking for a spine-tingling ride, complete with the clatter and bumps of a wooden coaster, head to Illinois’ Six Flags Great America to ride the Goliath.
The Gravity Max, Lihpao Land Discovery World, Taiwan
This roller coaster starts off like any other, but when you get to the top of the first hill the cars break away from the tracks. Everyone is tilted at a 90-degree angle and dropped from 34 stories. There are no other roller coasters like it in the world, so head to Taiwan to give this unique ride a try.
Formula Rossa, UAE
All you need to know about Formula Rossa is that it’s located in a Ferrari-themed amusement park and it is the fastest roller coaster in the world. Like a Ferrari sports car, this coaster will take you from 0 to 149 mph in 5 seconds. If that’s not enough G-force for you, then you might be a fighter pilot at heart.
