Dua Lipa announced nominees for The 2020 American Music Awards (AMAs). The AMA nominee made the announcement live on ABC’s Good Morning America. She will perform in next month’s program, where she is a nominee for Favorite Female in the Pop/Rock category along with Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift.
The Weeknd and Roddy Ricch Dominate
Two-time AMA winners The Weeknd and Ricch dominated the nominations, earning eight each. Both are up in the Favorite Pop/Rock Song category and for the night’s most coveted award, Artist of the Year. Justin Bieber, Post Malone, and Taylor Swift are also nominees for Artist of the Year along with first-time nominee, Megan Thee Stallion. She is the most nominated female artist this year with five including Collaboration of the Year.
Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift tied with six nominations each. DaBaby and Doja Cat earned four nominations.
Taylor Swift Could Break her AMA Records
Swift is the present record-holder for the Artist of the Year with five. At 29 total awards, she’s the overall AMA awards leader. And she’s likely to expand that lead if and when she picks up another.
New AMA Categories for Latin and Rap/Hip-Hop
The Latin influence emerged in 2020’s R&B/Hip-Hop genre. As a result, the AMA created two new categories, Latin and Rap/Hip-Hop. Both genres will have Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Female Artist, but the Latin category will also have Favorite Album and Favorite Song.
The AMAs will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 22 at 8 p.m. EST/PST.
