What a life. The reality for pop-star Ariana Grande is that any little public move stirs speculation, headlines, and debate. And it continued this week with a photo in her Instagram post that sent fans into a frenzy.
Having recently released a song called “Boyfriend” with artist, Mikey Foster, rumors are swirling that he is her new beau. Grande helped the rumor with an Instagram post featuring two photos promoting the new song. In them she’s wearing a little white tutu that is very short with a black bra and black heels. In one of the photos she is resting gently on Foster’s leg.
Are these photos strictly professional or is there something more going on? A quick scroll through her comments reveals a clear consensus. Fans are thinking the latter. Whether or not Adriana and Mikey are the new thing, Grande’s current profile commands this sort of attention, especially when it comes to her love life – lest we forget her engagement to Pete Davidson or the toxic ending to the Mac Miller saga. So, is it promotion or emotion? That’s the question for her rabid fans, a question that should be answered in short order. Stay tuned.
Ariana Grande accused photographer Robert Barbera of taking unauthorized pictures of her. For celebrities that’s a big deal if the photographer then makes money from the pictures. Their image is their property they argue and it has value. They also argue that their celebrity does not give permission for people to violate their privacy. It all gets murky when celebrities accept the exposure paparazzi photos give them.
The case between Grande and Barbera put a new spin on the whole issue when Ms. Grande used Barbera’s unauthorized pictures to promote her Sweetener album. The photographer filed a lawsuit against Grande for her unauthorized use of his unauthorized photos. He demanded $25,000 for each photograph. In the end the suit was dropped when the two parties agreed to an undisclosed settlement. Legal struggles between photographers and celebrities about the use of their image are common. Last month, Supermodel Gigi Hadid won a lawsuit against the agency Xclusive -Lee, Inc. It won’t be the last.
Ariana Grande is about to work with Jim Carrey and she’s thrilled about it. The two will be working together on the second season of Kidding, a major Showtime drama series where Grande will be playing a guest role. She announced her role in a recent Instagram post that featured a black and white photo of Jim Carrey hugging the popster. Grande described herself as speechless about the news she would be working on the project; she also said that she adored Jim Carrey ever since she was a little kid. She described Carrey as being more special, warm and generous in person than she ever imagined he could be. Season two of “Kidding” will premier on November 3rd. Though it is about the host of a kid TV show, it is not for kids.
Recently over Instagram, Ariana Grande made an inappropriate joke about JonBenét Ramsey, a six year old who was murdered in her home 23 years ago. The incident started when her friend Douglas Middlebrook made an Instagram post showing a photo of the victim with a caption saying, “No One Has Done More Covers.” Grande bantered back saying to Middlebrook “I can’t wait for this to be your Halloween costume.” Middlebrook jokingly replied, “Working on it already.” The comments and the post were quickly deleted after they realized how socially offensive they were, but not before many of Grande’s fans were angered by the comment. Grande apologized and thanked her fans for keeping her in line.
Her fans were correct in their criticism, but given that Ariana was three years old when the event happened, the significance of it may not have been foremost in her mind. Good that she withdrew the comments and apologized. Good example. Move on.
Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris joined Katy Perry, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato at a fundraising event in Scooter Braun’s house in Los Angeles. Many Taylor Swift fans have denounced Kamala’s decision to attend the event because they think Braun is arrogant and bigoted. To some this is surprising given Taylor Swift’s support for Kamala Harris; however, Taylor Swift dislikes Scooter Braun and has used social media to describe her conflicts with him. On Tumblr Swift claimed to have been bullied by Scooter Braun for years. There were roughly 100 guests in attendance and only a few of them made social media posts about the event.
Other democratic candidates are getting money from Hollywood celebrities too. Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker have all gotten Hollywood money recently. Bernie Sanders is avoiding financial support from wealthy citizens, seeking instead to be funded by small donations from non-wealthy Americans. Time will tell how the issue of campaign finance affects the election next year.
Remember Ariana Grande’s emotional performance a few weeks back in Pittsburgh? Well, according to Grande, she is “still processing a lot” as she continues through her Sweetener Tour across the USA, which will eventually head to Europe. Breaking out in tears during her latest performance in St. Louis, she took to twitter afterwards saying “I feel everything very intensely, and I have committed to doing this tour during a time in my life when I’m still processing a lot. So sometimes I cry a lot”
Over the span of the last two years there has been a lot going on in the life of the pop-star. From the suicide bombing at her concert in Manchester back in May 2017, to the death of Mac Miller, to the end of her relationship with comedian Pete Davidson, there has been a tremendous amount of emotions for Grande to deal with, all the while releasing a new album and peforming it on tour.
Grande will head back to Manchester this August as a headliner for Manchester Pride, her first performance back in Manchester since the suicide bombing in 2017. We expect there to be much more tears and emotion from Grande over the next handful of performances as she continues to fight the internal struggles that have plagued her emotionally for quite some time now.
Miley Cyrus knows how to keep her name in the mix. She recently liked an IG post saying that she, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey will soon be releasing collaboration, and the internet is abuzz. Although Ariana added to the noise when she too liked it we’ve gotten no hints from Del Rey.
Cyrus and Grande are no strangers to collaboration, they released, “Don’t Dream It’s Over” a couple years ago for charity. Adding Lana’s soft, plaintiff voice their big voices could make for nice musical contrast, if Del Rey can punch through. Although this whole story started from mere speculation the attention it has garnered might bring the trio into the studio anyway.
