This week, Rudy Giuliani called the New York Police on Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen after a prank. Bystanders then spotted the bikini-clad satire artist running down the Upper East Side of Manhattan, covered in only a bathrobe.
Former New York City mayor and current personal attorney to President Trump, Rudy Giuliani, was under the impression he was doing a legitimate interview. Giuliani had been invited to the swanky Mark Hotel to answer questions about Trump’s response to COVID-19.
When Giuliani arrived, he saw a professional-grade interview set, complete with high-end lighting and cameras. A female journalist started the interview as usual, when Cohen suddenly made his grand entrance.
The actor ran onto the set, scantily clad in a pink bikini and some mesh. Giuliani said of the incident:
“This guy comes running in, wearing a crazy, what I would say was a pink transgender outfit. It was a pink bikini, with lace, underneath a translucent mesh top, it looked absurd. He had the beard, bare legs, and wasn’t what I would call distractingly attractive.”
But Giuliani had no idea that the character was Cohen in disguise. Assuming he was just a mad man, Giuliani called the police. He recounts, “This person comes in yelling and screaming, and I thought this must be a scam or a shake-down, so I reported it to the police. He then ran away.”
Bystanders on the street said they saw Cohen running out of the hotel, running down 77th Avenue in only a bathrobe.
Still, Giuliani says he’s a fan of Cohen’s, and has taken the prank with good humor.
“I am a fan of some of his movies, ‘Borat’ in particular, because I’ve been to Kazakhstan,” the ex-mayor said, before quoting the film in the character’s unusual accent. “‘She is my sister. She is number four prostitute in all of Kazakhstan.’ That was pretty funny.”
Alt-Right Rally Prank
Sacha Baron Cohen has had a busy week. Only days prior, he crashed an event organized by the alt-right militia group Three Percenters. He gained access to the event by disguising himself as a country singer. After making a dramatic donation, he got on stage and performed a satirical, yet highly offensive, original song.
But his caricature worked. Cohen even got some attendees to sing along with the racist lyrics. These included the lines like, “Obama, what we gonna do? Inject him with the Wuhan flu” and, “WHO what we gonna do? Chop ’em up like the Saudis do.”
The lyrics also wished the coronavirus on a couple different Asian nations, as well as Hillary Clinton and Dr. Fauci. All the while, the audience showed Cohen great support as he pushed the boundaries of offense. Keeping with his no-holds-barred style, Cohen maintained the act, seeing how far he could go until the crowd turned on him. Eventually, some event organizers realized it was performance art. At that point, Cohen and his crew fled to their getaway vehicle, a fake ambulance.
Some have speculated that the recent pranks will feature in the next season of his Showtime series, Who Is America? A person familiar with production, however, said that right-wing rally prank was an isolated incident.
