Recently, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the platform will not fact check political ads, thus allowing false political ads on its platform. Facebook has considered banning political ads altogether, but decided against it because many other platforms don’t ban them – Twitter being a new exception. A Facebook spokesperson said that “people, and not tech companies, should decide what is credible.”
Many Facebook employees are unhappy with the decision. 250 of them signed an open letter against the policy saying that Zuckerberg’s decision would allow the platform to be weaponized.
