Somehow, the Josh Gordon saga continues. The New England Patriot’s wide receiver may have an opportunity to play in the NFL this season in spite of a career full of drug-related suspensions and mental health issues. The talented wideout was traded to the Patriots last year in a move that was viewed by many as his last chance in the NFL. The Patriot’s no nonsense approach was thought to be the only environment that could salvage his blemished career.
While things were going well last year and he was clicking with future hall of famer Tom Brady on the field, another drug violation got him suspended for the final three games of the 2018 regular season and all of the playoffs – the umpteenth of his career. Returning to training camp over the weekend, fresh off his latest NFL suspension, the Patriots placed Gordon on the non-football injury list. He was seen on the practice field stretching and doing some light conditioning, but he declined all interview requests.
Gordon burst onto the scene in 2013, catching 87 passes for a league high 1,646 yards, which put him in the Pro Bowl. That happened even though he was suspended for the first two games of the season for a substance abuse violation. He was suspended next in 2015, ultimately missing the next two seasons while battling with mental health issues as well as drug problems.
Barring a decision by the Patriots to release him, it seems Josh Gordon will have yet another go at life in the NFL this year. The Pats have supported Gordon throughout the process and his teammates are rooting for him to turn things around both on the field, and more importantly, off the field. Gordon could be a fantasy sleeper pick this year should he find his way back on the field. While his problems away from football have been significant, there is no denying his talent when he is suited up on Sundays.
2019 has been a big year for Disney; releasing and announcing numerous movie and TV series remakes, the impending release of Disney+ as well as the company’s theme parks having a great year. With the good comes the bad and Disney is now dealing with some harsh accusations from a former company accountant.
In a recent statement, a former senior financial analyst for Disney, Sandra Kuba, said that employees in the parks division overstated revenue by as much as $6 billion in the years 2008-2009. Kuba had worked for Disney for over 18 years. She claimed that employees would double count sales from gift cards, once when purchased and once when used. At times they would even count them as a sale when a complimentary gift card was given to customers who had a complaint about their experience.
Whether the errors were done due to negligence or done intentionally these are serious claims that Disney is denying as it performs its internal due diligence. Disney stock dropped modestly after the statements were made public, but nothing that would send stockholders into a frenzy. There may be serious sanctions by the Securities and Exchange Commission on the unlikely chance that these irregularities were an attempt at stock manipulation.
The Premier League is only two weeks into its 2019-2020 campaign and VAR is stealing all the headlines. After a wild opening weekend which saw a ton of VAR decisions come into question, Man City was once again at the forefront of VAR’s wrath and this time it may have cost them points.
Man City vs Tottenham Spurs is quickly becoming appointment television ever since the teams squared off three times last April. Two of those games were Champions League quarter final matchups, so the stakes were as high as they get.
You may remember that in the second leg, VAR overturned a goal scored by Man City in stoppage time because of a narrow offside. The decision knocked Man City out of the competition and saw the Spurs through to the semi final.
These world-class clubs faced off again over the weekend at the Etihad in another classic, one that saw Spurs earn a point in a 2-2 draw. City dominated, owning nearly 70% of the possession time while driving over twenty shots to the Spurs’ three. VAR should have given City a penalty in the opening few minutes, but it ruled play on. Despite City’s domination, the game was 2-2 in the dying minutes. A corner was swung in and took a few deflections in the box before landing at the feet of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus who buried the apparent winner with just seconds to play. Cue the evil empire music for VAR …
After review, it was determined the ball had inadvertently hit off the hand of City defender Aymeric Laporte before arriving at the feet of Jesus, illegally aiding City’s goal and thus called a handball. Laporte knew nothing about it, but City players along with packed Etihad fans were furious to see the tie. Spurs Coach Mauricio Pochettino joked after the game saying “I love VAR.” City manager Pep Guardiola was surprisingly calm about the whole thing.
The problem with VAR thus far is that it’s still subject to human error in many cases, particularly now examining potential borderline incidents that were not reviewed previously. Additionally, there are different VAR rules in every competition, with the Premier League VAR having different review rules than the Champions League. We fear this will be a touchy subject throughout the Premier League campaign. After just two weeks, the story has been more about VAR issues than the actual performance of players and teams. For the sake of the game, that needs to change quickly. Uniform VAR rules need to be established across leagues.
America has been known as a melting pot because of its diverse mixture of people. Many cultures and regions bring many food varieties. In spite of the incredible selection available to Americans from different cultures, American cuisine has withstood the test of time. Here are some of the favorites.
1. The Burger
2. Hot Dogs
3. Mac and Cheese
5. Chicken and Waffles
8. Chocolate Chip Cookies
Note our rule: if it’s been in the US for more than a century, it qualities as American cuisine i.e. Hot Dogs are from Germany and Pizza is from Italy.
The first hot dog is believed to have been sold from push cart in New York City in the 1860s and Charles Feltman, a German immigrant, is credited with opening the first hot dog stand in Coney Island in 1870.
The first pizza restaura
nt was Lombardi’s on Mott Street in New York City in 1905. It’s still there. You’ll know it by the line out the door and coal-fired ovens, which are grandfathered in-spite of the New York City building code that prohibits them. By the way, pizza isn’t number ten…it’s got to be at least number 3 or 4.
It’s been a quiet summer for Selena Gomez. No new music, not much action on social media, but she has been working on a new project under the radar, sort of. It has been reported by Women’s Wear Daily that Gomez has filed a trademark through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the name “Selena Gomez”. While she hasn’t promoted anything new or said anything about the trademark, the name was pretty telling that she’s up to something.
Gomez is up to a bunch of things in fact, along the lines of cosmetology. The trademark was filed for perfumes, coognes, aftershaves, cosmetics, skin and hair care, nail products, essential oils, soaps, body lotions, fragrances, and more! Sounds like a whole “Selena Gomez” beauty and self care line is in the works. Selena still hasn’t commented on the subject so we expect it to be at least a year before anything gets officially released to market.
With some new music reported to be on the way this fall, and now a possible announcement of a new line of cosmetic products looming, Gomez’s busy summer might be shifting into a very busy fall.
Justin Bieber and his supermodel wife Hailey Bieber had a secret wedding ceremony back in September of 2018 to officially get hitched. Now they want to have an actual wedding ceremony, but they plan to keep it small. The couple are looking at fall dates, and the location still has not been decided upon by the power couple. While we expect the wedding to be of the smaller variety, it is hard to know how small is small for a couple of their pedigree. Those details should unfold in the coming weeks.
Bieber has been focusing on his mental health over the last few months and on being the best father and husband he can be. He has not had a new album in a few years but recently just dropped a new song with Ed Sheeran called “Love Yourself”. The title of the song certainly fits in line with Bieber’s new focus on mental health. For the Biebers, having a second wedding should be no big deal, while the normal couple would be hurting just to pay for one!
We’ll keep monitoring the unfolding situation with the Bieber Wedding “take two”. Check back in for more updates.
Singer Bebe Rexha posted on Instagram and Twitter that she is being called “too old to be sexy”. In a rather, sexy, picture on her instagram that shows her in her bra and undies with a black and white filter, she goes on to share the story of a Male Exec saying she was too old to be posting sexy pictures. The post was rather long and direct and touched on her current age (almost 30) and how she is tired of women who get older being labeled as such.
Fans naturally showed their support to the social media posts, popping in with positive comments and women empowerment dialogue. Clearly Bebe is trying to do the same with her recent comments. In one of the captions she wrote “Empower women to love their bodies instead of making girls and women feel less by their size”. Age truly is only a number, and it is how you feel that is most important. There is no doubt Rexha is feeling good about turning 30 and does not care what people think about her age in regards to her brand and image.
She closed her post by saying. “TRUST ME, I’m a much better lover than I was 10 years ago.”
Looking to make a couple extra bucks for a family vacation, pay the bills, or having some extra gas money? Well, you could look into selling some old VHS tapes. Yup, thats right, VHS tapes have carved out a little market for themselves in the online trading world of eBay, and you will be shocked for how much some of these tapes are going for.
Apparently out of Australia a report stated that a 1999 Special Edition copy of Mulan in mint condition was sold for over $20,000! A set of seven Disney classics, Black Diamond edition, which included Bambi and Aladdin sold for $18,000. A 1990 VHS of the Little Mermaid sold for $15,000 and 1992 version of Beauty and the Beast Black Diamond edition sold for $10 G’s. New data has revealed that almost 250,000 VHS tapes have been sold online over the last year, and over $3 million dollars has been spent on VHS tapes in that time.
Why the sudden spike in value and demand for these classic films. Well for starters, Disney has been cranking out remakes of their old movies like Fords on an assembly line. This alone has raised the value of older tapes that will never be produced again in the VHS versions like the originals. While very few people these days even own a VHS player, that shouldn’t stop you from trying to make a couple extra bucks selling the tapes online.
Disney’s remake of Aladdin hit the theaters earlier this year was a massive success across the globe. Grossing over $1 Billion dollars, the popularity of Aladdin has Disney thinking that the people are looking for more. With numbers like those, it is hard to disagree with their stance.
The recent resurgence of the Golden Era films from Disney has been based around remaking older titles and not adding sequels films. However in this case, it could make sense. The Will Smith Genie element will be a big draw to bring viewers back in, along with the curiosity of what new angle they will take with the Aladdin title.
Producer Dan Lin had this to say.
“We certainly when we first made the movie wanted to just make the best movie we could and let audiences tell us if they wanted to see more. And I would say resoundingly audiences want to see more. And so we feel like there’s more story to tell.”
While nothing has been officially revealed, it sounds like the powers that be in the Aladdin franchise are toying with the idea of more for the title.
It has also been rumored that a live action Bambi remake is in the works. After seeing the success of The Lion King, Disney will produce the 1940’s classic Bambi in a similar fashion. Talking CGI animals, mixed into live action backgrounds, and the possibility of an actual human being in the film are among the latest highlights around the underground buzz. Disney has been on an all out blitz of remakes, and Bambi is one of the remaining few titles Disney still has to produce.
Check back in for more Disney news as some of these new rumors unfold and let us know your thoughts on some of the latest Disney buzz!
